Kevin Patrick Smith é um cineasta americano, ator, comediante, palestrante, escritor de quadrinhos e autor. Ele ganhou destaque com o filme de comédia de baixo orçamento Clerks (1994). Neste longa-metragem, ele foi responsável por escrever, dirigir, coproduzir e atuar como o personagem Silent Bob, que faz parte do duo "stoner" Jay and Silent Bob.
Jay and Silent Bob também apareceram em filmes posteriores de Smith, incluindo Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II e Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Essas produções se passam principalmente no estado natal de New Jersey. Embora os filmes não sigam uma ordem cronológica estrita, eles compartilham elementos de enredo, referências a personagens e um cânone comum conhecido como "View Askewniverse". Este universo recebe o nome da View Askew Productions, produtora que ele cofundou com Scott Mosier.
